Time-Bomb Fiction

Why is it such a big deal? It's just a number, just a day. Why does everyone care so much about it?

It's not like anything is really changing.

Or, maybe it is and I just can't see it. Sure, it sounds a little different. But it's just the same. just another number.

She's going to be a teenager.

What was that old line about teenagers - "Give them an inch, they'll swim all over you." But she won't be that way. She respects us, her parents. We've brought her up well. Given her the tools she'll need.

I can't kid myself tho, these will be tough years for her. So many new experiences, new feelings, new beginnings. She can hold on to the old stuff too, tho. Right? She'll always be our little girl ... right?

She's growing up tho. So fast. Not so little any more. It seems not so long ago that we were doing everything for her, and then teaching her to do things for herself. Were we successful? Were we TOO successful? Will she not want us for anything now?

We can't stop the clock, no matter how much we might like to.

But even if we could, would we? This is the way of things. We grow up. We get old. Maybe I have it all wrong, and it's not her that's changing, it's me.

Ha. Ha-ha!

Who am I kidding, if course it's her that's changing. I'm just an old dog who can't learn new tricks. Woof.

I'd better start tho. Because I don't have a daughter any more, I have a TEENAGER. May as well learn to enjoy the ride.

Enh, I can settle for "tolerate" the ride, I guess.

Time's a wastin'. These candles aren't going to light themselves.

Happy birthday to you,
Happy birthday to you,
Happy birthday dear TEENAGER,
Happy birthday to you!

Nice! ... and also terrifying. We're about three years out, and i know you're only about a year behind.

Thanks for writing, man!
